More and less for kids is one of the first ideas in maths, and children learn it long before they can count. A two-year-old knows which plate has more laddoos. This page turns that everyday skill into a short game. Golu shows two groups of the same picture, such as apples, balls, ducks or balloons, and asks "Which group has more apples?". Your child taps a group, hears praise and the number, and moves on. Older children also get "Which group has fewer?".
The second tab, Number and dots, shows a big numeral and asks your child to find the card with that many dots. Both games are free, spoken in Hindi and English, and need no reading.
What is more and less? A simple explanation for kids
More means a bigger amount. Less (for things you can count, fewer) means a smaller amount. In Hindi, children hear ज़्यादा for more and कम for less. "This plate has more grapes" (इस प्लेट में ज़्यादा अंगूर हैं).
The game uses "fewer" in English because the objects can be counted. You can use "less" at home too; young children understand both. What matters is that the word always comes with a real comparison your child can see.
How to play the more or less game
- Tap Tap to play. Golu asks "Which group has more balls?". Tap 🔊 to hear it again.
- Look at the two groups. Your child can count, or just see which one looks like more.
- Tap a group. The right one turns green, and Golu says the number, for example "six".
- After a few rounds, the question sometimes changes to "Which group has fewer?". Listen carefully!
In the Number and dots tab, Golu says "Find the card with 4 dots" and shows a big 4. Your child taps the dot card that matches. The dots sit in a neat row, so your child can count them one by one, and with practice can see small amounts at a glance.
A wrong tap never ends the game. Golu says "Try again", then makes the right group glow, and finally points to it. Every child finishes every round.
More and less for nursery, LKG and UKG
The game follows the age you set in the settings (⚙️):

This follows the usual order in which children learn to compare. First they see a big difference without counting (5 ducks and 1 duck). Next they compare close amounts by counting (6 and 7). Last, they understand "fewer", which is harder than "more" because it asks for the smaller one. Most curricula, from India's NCF to the US Common Core kindergarten standards, expect children to compare two groups up to 10 by the end of UKG or kindergarten.
How to teach more and less at home
Children learn this concept best with real things in their hands. Try these short activities alongside the game:
- Two plates. Put 2 biscuits on one plate and 5 on another. "Which plate has more?" Then swap the question: "Which has fewer?"
- Line them up. When the groups are close, line the objects up in two rows, one under the other. The longer row has more. This is the best trick for children who cannot count yet.
- One more, one less. Add one spoon to a group: "Now there is one more." Take one away: "Now there is one less." This leads into before and after numbers.
- Same. Make two equal groups and ask. Children are surprised when the answer is "the same" (बराबर).
Size can confuse young children. Five small buttons may look like "less" than three big balls. If your child picks the group with bigger objects, line both groups up and count together. That is the real lesson.
Number to quantity matching and dot cards
Knowing that the numeral 4 means four things is a separate skill from saying "one, two, three, four". Many children can count to 20 but still pick the wrong card when asked to show 4. The Number and dots game practises exactly this link between the symbol, the word and the amount.
Seeing small amounts at a glance, without counting, is called subitising. Most children can subitise up to 3 by age 4, and up to 5 in patterns by age 5 or 6. Dot cards help because the dots always look the same. If your child counts each dot with a finger, that is fine. It is a normal stage.
For counting practice first, play counting 1 to 10, where your child taps each object as it is counted. Hindi speakers can learn the number names on the Hindi ginti chart.
More and less worksheet ideas
There is no PDF here, but a worksheet takes two minutes to draw. Draw two boxes on paper. Put 3 stars in one and 6 in the other, and ask your child to circle the box with more. For "fewer", ask them to colour the box with fewer. For number matching, write the numbers 1 to 5 down one side and draw dot groups in a different order on the other, and let your child draw lines to join them. How to use this page at home
Say it, then find it
Play for a few minutes, then look for the same thing away from the screen: more and less for kids on the shelf, in the kitchen, on the way to school. A child learns a word properly when they meet it twice, once on the screen and once in their hand.
Ten minutes is enough
Short and happy beats long and tired. Stop while your child still wants more, and come back tomorrow: the same page on five short days teaches far more than one long sitting. Nothing here is scored, so there is no reason to push.
Use both languages
Tap the language button at the top to hear the words in your home language first and the second language after. Hearing the same picture named in two languages is one of the few things research agrees builds attention as well as vocabulary.
