Tables for kids are usually taught in class 2 or class 3, but many 5 and 6 year olds love chanting the table of 2 or 10 long before that, the same way they love reciting a rhyme. On this page your child picks a table from 2 to 10, taps any line such as "2 × 3 = 6" to hear "two times three is six", or presses "Say the table" to hear the whole table read aloud. The full tables chart from 2 to 10 sits just above this article, ready to print.

Tables are a stretch goal, not a requirement, for children under 6. At 5-6 the important maths is counting to 20, "one more", and adding within 10. Use tables as a listening and chanting game, and never as a test.

What are times tables, in words a child understands?

A times table is quick counting in jumps. The table of 2 is counting in twos: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. "2 times 3" means three jumps of two, or three groups of two things. Show it with pairs of socks: one pair is 2 socks, two pairs are 4, three pairs are 6. This picture of "equal groups" is what multiplication really is, and it comes long before memorising.

In Hindi a table is called a पहाड़ा (pahada). The game speaks each line as दो गुणा तीन बराबर छह (do guna teen barabar chhah). Many families also know the traditional chant दो एकम दो, दो दूनी चार (do ekam do, do duni chaar); both mean the same thing, and you can chant the traditional version alongside.

The right age and order for tables

Age / classWhat fitsTables to try
3-4 (nursery)Counting 1 to 10; no tables yetCount pairs of shoes by ones
4-5 (LKG, KG)Counting to 20, hearing "2, 4, 6" as a songListen to the table of 2 only
5-6 (UKG)Skip counting by 2, 5 and 10 out loud2, 10 and 5, as listening and chanting
6-7 (class 1)Equal groups with objects; table of 2 in class 1 in many schools2, 5, 10, then 3 and 4
7-8 (class 2, 3)Learning tables 2 to 10 by heartAll tables 2 to 10

The easiest order is 2, 10 and 5 (they follow clear patterns), then 3 and 4, then 9, then 6, 7 and 8. Table of 2 and 3 together are a common first pair in school, and tables for kids 2 to 5 are plenty for a first year.

How to use the tables game

  • Pick a table. The buttons 2 to 10 switch the table. The big number at the top shows which one you are on.
  • Tap a line to hear it once, for example "five times four is twenty".
  • Say the table reads all ten lines, lighting each one. When it finishes, a marble drops into the Goli Jar.
  • Language. The अ+A button in the header switches between English and Hindi.
  • Calm mode. Settings (behind a grown-up check) offer calm sound and calm motion.

Let your child say each answer before the voice does. Tap the line, pause, and let them guess.

How to teach tables to kids without pressure

Parents often ask how to make a child learn tables. The best answer is: slowly, with objects and rhythm, never with drills or punishment. Try these five-minute activities:

  1. Skip count on the stairs. Jump two steps at a time and say 2, 4, 6. Try tens on a 1-100 chart: 10, 20, 30.
  2. Equal groups. Make 3 plates with 2 biscuits each. "How many biscuits? Count them all." That is 3 × 2.
  3. Hands and fingers. Count fingers on hands in fives: 5, 10, 15, 20. The table of 5 lives on your hands.
  4. Clap and chant. Chant the table of 2 with claps on each answer. Rhythm makes tables easier to remember, just like a song.
  5. Find patterns. In the table of 10 every answer ends in 0. In the table of 5 answers end in 5 or 0. In the table of 2 every answer is even. Children love spotting these.

How to remember tables for kids who are older

For 7 and 8 year olds, a few tricks help: 9 × a number, where the answer's digits add up to 9 (18, 27, 36); doubles (the table of 4 is double the table of 2); and turning facts round (3 × 5 is the same as 5 × 3). The patterns game builds the pattern-spotting habit that makes tables easier later.

Table of 2 in English words

Table of 2In English wordsIn Hindi
2 × 1 = 2Two ones are twoदो एकम दो
2 × 2 = 4Two twos are fourदो दूनी चार
2 × 3 = 6Two threes are sixदो तिया छह
2 × 4 = 8Two fours are eightदो चौके आठ
2 × 5 = 10Two fives are tenदो पंजे दस

The table of 2 written in English words continues the same way up to two tens are twenty. The game says it as "two times one is two", which children also hear in school.

Table of 2 in nursery, LKG, UKG and class 1

Some schools send the table of 2 for UKG class homework, and a few even list the table of 2 for LKG class. At that age treat it as a song: listen on this page, chant it in the car, and draw the table of 2 with pictures, such as 1 pair of eyes, 2 pairs of eyes, 3 pairs of eyes. For a table of 2 activity, give your child 10 pairs of buttons to line up in twos. A table of 2 worksheet for grade 1 can then ask for the missing answers. Tables games for kids work best when they are short, such as rolling a die and doubling the number.

There is no PDF to download, but printing this page from your browser gives you a clean tables chart from 2 to 10, with every table in its own box. Stick the table of 2 chart near the dining table and read it together once a day. For a simple worksheet, cover some answers on the printout with small paper squares and ask your child which number is hiding. Children who need more numbers can use the 1 to 100 chart to skip count; tables up to 20 are a later, class 3 and 4 topic.

Keep tables happy

If tables cause tears, stop and go back to counting objects or addition with pictures. Multiplication only makes sense once adding feels easy. Praise effort and patterns noticed, not speed. Do not time young children.

For a child with a speech delay, listening and pointing is enough. Autistic children often enjoy the regular rhythm of tables; keep calm sound on if needed. Bilingual children can learn one language's chant first. If you are worried about development, talk to your paediatrician.

Screen time: listen together, then chant away from the screen, on a walk or in the car. Under-2s are better off with a grown-up and real objects than a screen.

More number fun: before and after numbers, Hindi ginti 1 to 100 and the Parent Corner.

Tables for Kids (2 to 10): questions parents ask

At what age should a child learn tables?
Most schools teach tables in class 2 and class 3, at 7 to 8. At 5-6, listening to and chanting the table of 2, 5 and 10 is a fun stretch, but counting and adding within 10 matter more.
How do I teach the table of 2 to a kindergarten child?
Start with pairs of real things (socks, shoes, eyes) and count them in twos. Then chant 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 with claps. Only later link it to "2 times 3 is 6".
How can kids learn tables easily?
Learn the easy tables first (2, 10, 5), use objects to show equal groups, chant with rhythm, and look for patterns. A few minutes a day works better than one long session.
What is the table of 2 in Hindi?
It is दो का पहाड़ा: दो एकम दो, दो दूनी चार, दो तिया छह and so on up to दो दहाई बीस. The game says each line as "दो गुणा एक बराबर दो".
Is there a tables chart I can print?
Yes. Print this page from your browser and the tables chart 2 to 10 prints cleanly. There is no separate PDF file.
Which tables does this page cover?
Tables 2 to 10, each from × 1 to × 10. Tap any line to hear it, or press "Say the table" to hear all ten lines.
Is it free?
Yes, it is free with no sign-up, no ads and no app to install. It works in any browser, and marbles are saved on your device.
