This page makes animal sounds for kids into a gentle listening game in Hindi and English. Your child hears a sound word like "moo" or मू-मू, then taps the animal that makes it. There are 53 animals and birds with sounds here: 28 animals, from the cow and dog to the lion and the frog, and 25 birds, from the crow and koel to the peacock and the owl. The sounds are spoken as words in a clear voice, the way you would say them to your child, not as loud recordings.

Why animal sounds matter for talking

Animal sounds are often among a child's very first "words". "Moo", "baa" and "bow-wow" are short, fun and easy to copy, so a toddler can join the conversation long before they can say "cow" or गाय. Copying sounds also builds listening, turn-taking and mouth movements for speech. Later, listening for sounds prepares children for phonics sounds for kids, where they hear the sounds inside words.

How to play the animal sounds game

  • Sounds: Golu asks "Who makes this sound?" and says a sound word. Your child taps the right animal from 2-4 pictures. Afterwards Golu says the full line, such as "A cow says moo."
  • Listen: tap any animal or bird to hear its name. Great for toddlers and for warming up.
  • Silly or right?: Golu shows a picture and says something like "The cow says quack!" Your child taps Right or Silly. This is the funniest mode, and children love to shout "Silly!"

A wrong tap never hears "wrong": your child gets a gentle hint, and Golu shows the answer. Every finished round drops a marble into the Goli Jar. The अ+A button chooses Hindi first, English first or one language only. Grown-up settings change the number of choices by age and include calm sound, calm motion and captions.

You do not need to be quiet while playing. Make every sound together, loudly and happily. That is the real lesson.

How to teach animal sounds to toddlers

How to teach animal sounds to a baby or toddler? Pair each sound with the animal, many times, in real life. Try this 5-minute routine:

  1. Show and say: hold a toy cow and say "The cow says moo." Pause and wait. Smile if your child tries.
  2. Make it silly: use a big voice for the lion and a tiny voice for the mouse.
  3. Take turns: you say "Woof", your child says "Woof". Then swap who goes first.
  4. Go outside: listen to crows at breakfast, a dog barking on the street, or pigeons on the balcony. Ask "Who is that?"
  5. Sing: "Old MacDonald had a farm" is the classic animal sounds song. Try a Hindi verse too.

How can I identify an animal sound outside? Stop, be still and listen. Point in the direction of the sound and guess together. In India, early mornings bring the koel's "koo-oo" in summer and the crow's "caw" all year. In the monsoon, frogs croak loudly at night.

Animal sounds in Hindi and English are different

Every language writes animal sounds its own way. An English dog says "woof", while in Hindi we often say भौं-भौं. A rooster says "cock-a-doodle-doo" in English and कुकड़ूँ-कूँ in Hindi. This is a lovely talking point for bilingual families: the dog makes the same noise everywhere, but people hear and write it differently. Many families think the funniest animal sound is the donkey's "hee-haw".

Animal sounds chart and activities

The word list above works as an animal sounds chart with pictures, Hindi, English and 🔊 buttons. There is no PDF, but you can print this page from your browser. For an animal sounds activity for kids, cut out the printed pictures, put them in a bag, and let your child pull one out and make its sound while you guess. It is a simple guessing game that works on a bus or in a waiting room.

For every child

Some children are sensitive to noise. Turn on calm sound in settings, lower the volume and start with soft sounds like "coo" and "meow". Praise every try, even a whisper.

For children with speech delay, animal sounds are often easier than words, so celebrate them. If your child does not copy sounds yet, keep modelling without asking them to repeat. Autistic children may enjoy the predictable Listen mode first. If you are concerned about your child's speech or hearing, talk to your paediatrician.

Play together, for a few minutes. Babies and children under 2 learn sounds best from a grown-up's face and voice, real animals and toys, rather than a screen.
