About these songs
Every song here was written for this site: the words and the tunes are original, which is why they can be sung in 34 languages, printed, and sung at school without anyone worrying about permission. They are short — six lines each — because a song a three-year-old can learn in a week is worth more than a long one they only listen to.
Songs for the day's routines
Some songs are built for a job: Good Morning, Golu for waking up, Brush, Brush, Brush and Wash Your Hands for the bathroom, Tidy Up Time, Splash in the Bath and Goodnight, Golu. Sung at the same moment each day, a song becomes a signal: it tells a child what happens next, which ends more arguments than any instruction.
Songs for feelings
How Do You Feel?, Smell the Flower, Blow the Candle and Kind Hands, Kind Words give children words and a breath for big moments. Sing them when things are calm, so they are ready when things are not.
How singing helps a child learn
A song puts a beat under language. The beat breaks words into syllables, the rhyme points at the sounds at the end of words, and the repetition lets a child predict what comes next — three skills that sit right underneath learning to read. Research on early literacy keeps finding the same thing: children who can hear rhyme and rhythm at four read more easily at six. Singing also lowers the stakes. A child who will not answer a question will often sing the answer.
Traditional rhymes too
Alongside the Golu songs, the nursery rhymes and Hindi rhymes pages have the old favourites — Twinkle Twinkle, Humpty Dumpty, Machli Jal Ki Rani — all old enough to be in the public domain.
Now do it for real
When the screen goes off, do something with your hands. Try 🧦 Sock puppet friend — an easy craft for ages 3-6, with every step read aloud in your language. You will need an old sock, buttons or paper for eyes, glue; nothing that needs a trip to a shop.
There are 56 more on the things to do at home page, and free printable worksheets if you would rather have something on paper. Ten minutes on a screen and twenty minutes off it is a good shape for a day at this age.
