For grown-ups बड़ों के लिए

Weather for kids starts with one question you can ask every single morning: "What is the weather like today?" This page turns that question into a picture board. Your child looks out of the window, taps the matching weather, hears it in Hindi and English, like "It is rainy today" and "आज बारिश हो रही है।", and then finds out what to wear. It is the same weather board many preschool classrooms use at circle time, made talk-friendly for home.

The six weather words

WeatherHindiWhat we need
☀️ SunnyधूपA cap, light clothes and water
🌧️ RainyबारिशAn umbrella or raincoat
☁️ CloudyबादलKeep an umbrella close, rain may come
🌬️ Windyतेज़ हवाA scarf, and a kite for fun
🌨️ Snowyबर्फ़A warm coat, gloves and a scarf
⛈️ Stormyतूफ़ानStay inside the house

Each picture also comes with a short fact from our weather collection, for example "Clouds are made of tiny water drops" and "Wind makes kites fly high."

How to play the weather game

Today (the weather board)

Six big pictures fill the board. Ask your child to look outside first, then tap the one that matches. Golu says the weather, a fact, and what to wear, and a small panel shows the weather next to the right clothing. The board remembers today's choice on your device, so if you come back later in the day it still shows your pick. Tomorrow it is empty again, ready for a new look out of the window.

Find the sky

Golu asks "Tap the rainy sky" and your child picks from two to four pictures, depending on age.

What to wear?

A weather picture appears and Golu asks "What do we need today?" Your child chooses: a cap for sunny days, an umbrella for rain, a coat or gloves for snow, a scarf or kite for wind, and staying inside for a storm.

There is no "wrong" sound. A mistake gets a gentle hint, then a glow, then a pointing hand, and every set of rounds ends with a marble in the Goli Jar.

Weather learning by age

  • 2-3 years: sun, rain and cloud. Point to the sky and name it. Splash in a puddle, feel the wind.
  • 3-4 years (nursery): all six words; linking weather to clothes: "It is raining, so we need…?"
  • 4-5 years (LKG): a weekly weather chart; noticing changes ("It was sunny yesterday, and today it is cloudy").
  • 5-6 years (UKG, class 1): seasons, simple causes (clouds bring rain), and counting sunny or rainy days on a chart.

Make a weather chart at home

  1. Draw a table with the days of the week across the top.
  2. Each morning, your child looks outside and draws or sticks a weather symbol for the day.
  3. At the end of the week, count together: how many sunny days? how many rainy days?
  4. Talk about it: "Which day was the best for flying a kite?"

There is no PDF, but you can print this page from your browser and use the table above as a small weather chart. For a weather worksheet for class 1, ask your child to draw today's weather and write or say one sentence about it.

Weather activities for kids

  • Rain gauge: put a clear jar outside in the monsoon and check the water level each day.
  • Wind test: hold up a dupatta or ribbon. Does it wave or hang still?
  • Cloud spotting: lie on a mat and find shapes in the clouds.
  • Dress the doll: give your child a doll or teddy and ask them to dress it for a rainy or a cold day.
  • Shadow check: on a sunny day, look at your shadows. On a cloudy day, are they still there?

Weather in India and around the world

Most Indian children know hot summers, the monsoon and cool winters, while snow is something they see only in the mountains, in places like Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir or Sikkim. In the UK or Canada, snowy days are part of winter. Traditional Indian calendars divide the year into six seasons (ऋतुएँ), from Vasant (spring) to Shishir (winter); you can learn those on our seasons for kids page. Weather is what the sky is doing today; a season is the usual weather for a few months.

Staying safe and calm in the weather

Some children are frightened by thunder and lightning. Keep the talk calm: "The storm is loud, and we are safe inside." Count the seconds between the flash and the boom together; counting turns fear into curiosity. The stormy picture in the game is gentle, and the answer is always to stay indoors. On very hot days, remind your child to drink water and stay in the shade.

Tips for every child

Children with speech delay can answer by pointing to the board; name the weather for them and wait. Autistic children often enjoy the fixed morning routine of a weather check, and a real window is a better start than the screen. In bilingual homes, say the weather in both languages at breakfast. Keep screen time short and shared, and for children under two, go outside and feel the weather together instead.

Pick the right outfit with clothes name in Hindi and English, explore the year with months of the year, try simple experiments on science for kids, and talk about time with yesterday, today and tomorrow.
