Start with the animals children see in villages, on farms and in stories. At Sankranti, the గంగిరెద్దు (gangireddu), a decorated bull led from house to house with music, visits many Telugu streets, which is a lovely moment to talk about ఎద్దు (eddu, bull) and ఆవు. Pet animals name in Telugu

కుక్క (kukka, dog) and పిల్లి (pilli, cat) are usually among a Telugu child's first words. Add కుందేలు (kundelu, rabbit) and ఎలుక (eluka, mouse), which is also the picture word for ఎ on the Telugu alphabet page. Notice how Telugu makes new names from old ones: పెద్ద ఎలుక (pedda eluka) is a rat, "big mouse", and ముళ్ళ ఎలుక (mulla eluka) is a hedgehog, "thorny mouse".

Wild animals name in Telugu and English

The forest set includes ఏనుగు (enugu, elephant), సింహం (simham, lion), పులి (puli, tiger), చిరుతపులి (chirutapuli, leopard), ఎలుగుబంటి (elugubanti, bear), కోతి (koti, monkey), జింక (jinka, deer), నక్క (nakka, fox) and తోడేలు (todelu, wolf). The long Andhra coast makes fish and seafood part of daily life in many homes. చేప (chepa, fish) is an early word and builds many others: బంగారు చేప (goldfish, "golden fish"), సొరచేప (sorachepa, shark), నక్షత్ర చేప (starfish). You will also find పీత (peeta, crab), రొయ్య (royya, prawn), కప్ప (kappa, frog) and తాబేలు (taabelu, turtle) on the alphabet page. 3. Act it out. Walk like an ఏనుగు, hop like a కప్ప, jump like a కోతి.
