The fruits in the game
Your child will meet everyday fruits (la pomme, la banane, l'orange, la poire, la pêche, la prune, la cerise, le raisin, le melon, le kiwi), tropical fruits (la mangue, la papaye, la goyave, l'ananas, la noix de coco, le litchi) and some fruits well known in South Asia, such as le jacquier (jackfruit), la sapotille and l'amla. Most fruits are feminine
Here is a pattern children can spot: most French fruit names are feminine and take la, especially when they end in -e: la pomme, la poire, la fraise, la cerise, la banane, la mangue. A few are masculine: le citron, le melon, le kiwi, le raisin, le litchi. Fruits that start with a vowel take l', like l'orange and l'ananas, and you hear the gender only in other words. Say the article every time and your child will absorb the pattern naturally.

Children enjoy these little puzzles. The "apple of the earth" one is a good joke to share when you move on to vegetables in French.
Fruit in French family life
In France, children have a small afternoon snack called le goûter around four o'clock, often a piece of fruit, bread or a compote. It is the perfect daily moment for fruit words: « Tu veux une pomme ou une banane ? » On Saturday mornings many families shop at the open-air marché, where children can point, name and count. Each January, families share the galette des rois, a pastry with a tiny hidden charm called la fève; whoever finds it becomes king or queen for the day and wears a paper crown. A classic nursery rhyme, « Pomme de reinette et pomme d'api », is named after two old French apple varieties and is sung while clapping hands.
Fruits by colour

How to teach fruit names in 5 minutes a day
- Goûter game. Offer two fruits and ask your child to choose in French.
- Market hunt. Ask your child to find une pomme, une poire et une banane.
- Mystery bag. Hide a fruit in a bag and guess by touch: « C'est une orange ! »
- Play shop. Set up « la marchande » with toy fruit and count coins in French.
At 2-3, learn five fruits your child eats. At 3-4, sort by colour and say « J'aime la fraise. » At 4-5, describe taste: sucré (sweet), acide (sour). At 5-6, notice which fruits take le or la. In the game, wrong taps get a gentle hint and every round ends with a marble in the Goli Jar. How to use this page at home
Say it, then find it
Play for a few minutes, then look for the same thing away from the screen: french words on the shelf, in the kitchen, on the way to school. A child learns a word properly when they meet it twice, once on the screen and once in their hand.
Ten minutes is enough
Short and happy beats long and tired. Stop while your child still wants more, and come back tomorrow: the same page on five short days teaches far more than one long sitting. Nothing here is scored, so there is no reason to push.
